Vote With Your Fork!Wondering what one action you could take that will yield maximum beneficial results to both your own life and the environment? Make the commitment to buy and eat only sustainably grown food. Your body, family and the planet will all say "thank you." (And don't forget your psyche: healing our relationship with the food we eat each day is great ecotherapy). If you're not sure why this is a good idea, check out the new movie Food, Inc. Supermarket and fast food fare will never look as appetizing again. Every purchase of genuinely organic, local and/or sustainably grown food is a contribution to a grower who's doing the right thing -- and a vote against factory farming, Frankenfoods, animal torture and the pesticide companies. Yes, you might spend a little more in some stores. But if you go to the Farmers Market and local farm stands or grow some of your own veggies (home grown tomatoes taste SOOOO much better!), you could also cut your food budget. As you're weighing the pros and cons of voting with your fork, don't forget that eating healthy may help you save a lot on medical bills and therapy costs. Also, as a taxpayer, you're saving yourself and your kids a bundle in public health and toxic cleanup expenses. If more of us followed food expert Michael Pollan's advice to eat less but eat real food, a lot of the world's problems would be solved. See you in the garden or at the Farmer's Market! |

There are many, "ripe for the
picking", so to speak, who are waiting for the right motivator to come
along. As they say in the east, "when the student is ready, the teacher
appears."
While the leopard may not change its spots, it can be trained like a domestic cat. It is not someone's nature we seek to change, but his consciousness and his mode of thinking. From the mode of ignorance, it is most difficult to be aroused. The trick is, to find where someone's passion lies and there you have the entrance to change his mentality and help him arouse from his ignorant slumber and steer him from passion towards goodness. To me, the amount of people fed up about so many things is a sign that needs to work out for the good. Teach people to survive from 1 acre, which can grow a million pounds of food each year. If we at all could get the numbers together, we could bypass the supermarket for food and deal Monsanto a deadly blow. Completely peaceful and within the frame of the law. |

My sentiments entirely Kaviraj. I'm seeking other like minds to create an ecoVillage community, based on Cohousing and incorporating employment within the village, based almost entirely on the production and processing of natural fibre.
Nothing will change unless we change it and we ALL possess unlimited potential to create and have whatever we want. It has nothing to do with background and upbringing; it has nothing to do with the haves and the have-nots. If we really want to see change and we put our minds to it, we can achieve anything.

People may not remember what you did for them, or even what you said, but they will always remember how you made them feel

Excellent idea! Cooperation and no competition. Just like in nature.
On your own you cannot become independent. You always have something you cannot do - you may have wool but how to spin it? You may have grains, but how to grind them? You may need shoes, but how to make them? So you can do everything in a community, inclusive of your fuel - oils can be grown. But you must seek to be independent of mechanic power. Everything must be geared for animal traction. You will need land for food and for animals, like cows and sheep, horses and bullocks. So your community must attract people with skills in their own field. Carpenters and builders, blacksmith and baker, miller and metal worker, leather maker and tailor, barber and doctor. Hauler and packer, and woodsman or shepherd, farmers and gardeners, markets and business. But you can either use gold or you can use barter, whichever fits best. There should be no debt-based economy, but one based on commodities and labour. Honest, straightforward and with strict laws and firm adherence and maintenance of the law, regardless one's position. |
