Dear Sara

Welcome to the forum

To Stop smoking is not as simple as just taking a  "one size fits all" remedy . There are many homeopathic remedies indicated in the repertory for this .

A homeopath must focus not only on the act of smoking but the mental and emotional reasons why,the miasmatic constitutional predisposition of each and every person that "WANTS" to stop smoking. (if they do not want to stop there is no point in giving a remedy) Smoking is a habitual process just like the addiction of alcohol/drug intake.

the repertory by robin murphy lists  addiction,nicotine- aven,calad,ign,nicot,nux-v,tab.   but the entire  section on tobacco toxicity is several pages long, hundreds of remedies.................................................... ...............

The remedy works only if its fitting  the individual,100 people that want to stop smoking all need their own well indicated remedy.

Sara

Gina is right. There is no way to help others to quit smoking unless they are determined enough.

I know it first hand because I was a chronic smoker who used to smoke three packs a day on an average. I have tried the whole range starting from beedies (available only in Indian sub continent) to rolled cigerettes, cigar, pipe and all the variations in between. I started smoking when I was in college at the age of 21. I smoked for almost 25 years non stop.

In between I tried various methods to quit smoking including homeopathic remedies but to no avail. Finally I succeded through sheer will power. It is now more tha 8 years since I smoked.

The best way to promote non smoking is to highlight the dangers of smoking at every available opportunity. Not through medicines.

Ok Yes Its wonderfull to make fun of those who smoke <i find it sad for those who are trying so hard to quit. Its certainly not in everyones will power to JUST STOP on their own and homeopathy can certainly help in that journey,This said Taking a generic 'stop smoking' homeopathic remedy will always fail, each person suffering needs to see a trained classical homeopath.

Dear Sarah

From my own expierence:(I have never smoked,ever- I personally think its discusting and verry invasive towards those who dont smoke in the room)-Again the ADDICTION PART of this problem needs to be addressed,This is only addressed via chonic complex casetaking by a trained homeopath.

Within the close circle of my own friends those who have tried by their own free will to quit i only know 2,those who use over the counter mds and over the counter homeopathic combination remedies to stop all have continued smoking. Those that seek appts with trained homeopaths, had their "CONSTITUTIONAL" remedy pescribed are all smokefree.Once their "CONSTITUTION" is in balance they stop the desire for smoking the addiction disapears.

No medicine constitutional or otherwise is going to help unless the patient has the required 'will power'. If that 'will power' is there no need to waste your money on 'constitutional' medicines.

Dear Sara

In homeopathy we call this a 'maintaining cause-factor', If this factor is always there and NOT stoped or removed the patient will NOT be cured/not be healthy.NO MATTER WHAT THE REMEDY TAKEN.

Smoking is NOT  something that everyone wants in their life, its an ADDICTION.This addiction can be addressed via miasmatic constitutional pescribing- Pure and Simple.Yes of course the person has to come on their own-terms and "ASK" for help to overcome this addiction "to Want to change",not be forced to change by others.Same thing with alcoholics, its the same addictive personality. (syc/syphl miasmatic predisposition) Sara do you know what Miasms are you might want to look it up on the searchbox here at HPATHY,If you understand the theory of Miasmatic prescribing you see the picture verry clear,

those that DO not study or prescribe using the miasmatic predispostion have a lack of deep understanding for latent chronic complex inherited symptoms -like addiction.Murthy posted:"is there no need to waste your money on 'constitutional' medicines.".........................................This sort of attitude is not great for a student of serious homeopathic studies, acute prescribing can only take a student so far, most symptoms patient suffer from are chronic (like the additions of smoking) for one example.

It is of NO benefit to anyone. Why encourage it? Why say i can give you this remedy that remedy and yes you can continue your habit of smoking. That is what allopathic medicine does and is famous for. Take this prescription pill for high bloodpressure/clogged arteries, diabetes on a daily basis and "go ahead and eat and drink what you like". Where in reality its the lifestyle/food/drink habits that needs an overhaul, this most often  ALONE will balance an unhealthy patient.

part 2;

Initially chronic diseases seemed to respond to an indicated remedy based on the presenting picture of symptoms. But as time went on, the remedy failed to produce the expected relief and these diseases continued to progress with new symptoms being added to the old picture. If there was a period of time that the external condition improved for a while (due to various external favorable factors, including the aid of a remedy), it was because the internal chronic disease had gone into "latency". This was a logical conclusion, because once the external favorable factors changed, the disease expressed itself again in full force.

Hahnemann sought, over a 9 year period of careful observation, to understand this 'fundamental cause' and how it could have possibly developed.

He understood that in most cases, this chronic condition developed from ancient times, due to the chronic effect of a 'miasm' precipitated by suppression or inadequate removal of symptoms (dynamic and physical) by external superficial medicinal agents...................................................... ..............................

Smoking is a self induced habit not natural by birth. It has nothing to do with the constitution of a person.
Therefore, any remedy selected on constitutional basis will definitely fail because it has no concern with it.
Most of the smoker's answer is "i am mentally depressed"the depression may be about his children,  MIND - ANXIETY - children,in - about his
acet-ac.
now this medicine will neither produce disgust for tobacco nor will make the patient dull minded and careless. It can help only the physical complaint which may be caused by it provided the symptoms agree..
Tobacco smoking is not a disease. It can be easily removed with the help of will power immediately.
Our aim is not to discourage the help seekers and the person who wish to learn homeopathy.

sajjad.

Dear Sajjad

You have taken my reply wrongly. I am not discouraging help seekers ,just the opposite in fact.

To learn about homeopathy is to learn more than acute prescribing.  Smoking is not a disease-correct-An  ADDICTION- that is the disease, the full understanding of latent miams point to Syc/syphl predispositions regards ADDICTION.

syc; over doing everything ,hyper,restlessness

syphl; self destruct,destructiveness,depressive,degenerating

aphorism 211 of The Organon of Medicine in which Samuel Hahnemann discusses the importance of the mental disposition.

"This holds good to such an extent, that the state of the disposition of the patient often chiefly determines the selection of the homoeopathic remedy, as being a decidedly characteristic symptom which can least of all remain concealed from the accurately observing physician".

With such an emphasis on the mental symptoms is there any reason to study the nature of disease, causation or the classical theory of the miasms? In contrast to this, Hahnemann points out in aphorism 5 and 206 the necessity of understanding the miasms when treating complex chronic diseases. ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------

From the archives a post on addiction by Dr. B of Hpathy forum:

Addiction by itself reflects a disturbed human economy with not only a craving for the substance but also a mental dependence and emotional weakness. When the patients suffering from addiction are treated with homeopathy, the totality of the case has to be taken into account. If there is any underlying disorder/disease along with the addiction, then treatment is given on the basis of totality of the symptoms. But some times there are cases where there is no disease per se, just a dependence on some drug or alcohol or somking etc. In such cases often medicines are given on the basis of constitutional traits.

Apart from these two approaches, there are many homeopathic medicines known to create aversion for alcohol or tobacco. Such medicines are also used. It is possible to get a person off the addiction even without his/her willingness to take the treatment.

Homeopathic medicines can help the process of getting off an addiction to a variable extent in different people. But I must say here that apart from the medicine, the underlying factors which led to the addiction must be dealt with. And methods like social and psychological counselling can also help.

Best wishes,
Dr. B

part 2;

The true simillimum is always based on the existing miasm. It makes the difference between fighting the disease in the dark and in bright light when one knows the underlying principle that fathers the phenomena. If one has no knowledge of the laws of action and reaction, how can we watch the progress of a case without a definite knowledge of the disease forces (miasms) with their mysterious and persistent progressions. So, if we know nothing about the traits and characteristics of our enemy, it's impossible to wage a war against the disease.

Hahnemann wrote about these things in his theory of Chronic Disease: The physician skilled in anti-miasmatic prescribing dips deeper into the case and applies an agent that has a deeper and closer relationship with the perverted life force. The results are always better.

I remember reading one symtom or a desire, we may say........

Better by Smoking......and the opposite one....aggravated by smoking.........

regarding alcohol, we have "Old Toppers"

With desire, will one develops the habit of addiction, one leaves with the desire itself........

but when we get symptoms and signs as above.......the role of medicine comes in........

And since  we are Medical professionals I would say it doesn't need eveytime that a medicine should be used to get the end result always.......like we may say, one has a desire to stop smoking/drinking/tobacco but it is the ADDICTION which destroys the will power as can be seen in Murthy sir's words
In between I tried various methods to quit smoking including homeopathic remedies but to no avail. Finally I succeded through sheer will power. It is now more tha 8 years since I smoked.

but then i can say that majority of people do not have so much will power or do not want to develop such will power to leave ADDICTIONS....

for them using homoeopathy, we can develop a DISTRACTION for such DESIRE to break the ADDICTION to get rid of the HABIT.....in other words train your vital principle to get off the ADDICTION and then let it get OFF the HABIT by the undistracted means of will power.........

howz it????

Lets talk further.......How much is the damage in ppl who smoke IN BETWEEN....those who have a DESIRE to smoke but NOT regularly.........they feel NOT  to smoke daily but ONCE in a while.........like one stick in 10 or 15 days.........

for although no smoking is an ideal path, how shud we consult such a patient if he debates with us.........instead of SIMPLY shedding him/her away.........by saying "U decide your own way"

One more thought came to my Mind after writing the above post.........

That I wrote the words ADDICTION, HABIT, DESIRE, DESTRUCTION thinking of each having a different meaning........

A second thought asks that is it really as I thought it should be in a language of a homoeopath or is it only a game that english language plays with its words....

ADDICTION, HABIT, DESIRE, DESTRUCTION

Yes these are all words to indicate the act of smoking,drinking,gambling,sex.........................an over abundance/out of controll situation "A HABIT" that controlls the person.
