That isn't how I practice homoeopathy - either the patient needs Lycopodium or they need Calcarea. Seeing a 'trace' of another remedy probably isn't a good reason to give it - you want a definite picture to prescribe on.

How do you know the patient is 'constitutionally' Lycopodium? Have the responded favorably to the medicine? If so then wait to see if the apparent Calc symptoms disappear after the Lyco has acted.

It would have been helpful if you had told us what calc symptoms you were referring to.  Paul Herscu talks about all remedies not being equal.  He says, "If you have to decide between Calcarea and Stramonium, give Stramonium!"  Why?  It's the sicker remedy.  You always want to find out, "What's the worst thing in this case?"  He said, in his book Stramonium that if your patient is 90% calc-carb (desires eggs, sweats on the head, slow and plodding nature, etc., except for just one thing--violent outbursts!  You have to give Stramonium!  Herscu would probably say that if you're choosing between Lyc. and Calc-carb, give Lyc. first because it's got deeper, more problematic issues than calc-carb--delusion that everything will fail, low self-esteem, dictatorial nature especially to inferiors, desire for power, bullying and so forth.  But again, not knowing the particulars of this case, it's hard to make a judgement.
